Canon RF 50mm F1.2L USM sample gallery. Of the four lenses launched alongside the Canon EOS R earlier this month, the RF 50mm F1.2L USM was one that we were excited to get our hands on. As soon as it landed in our office a few days ago we got started on a dedicated gallery, shot in Raw mode on the new Canon EOS R.

Tweet. Canon's new EF-S 35mm F2.8 IS STM Macro comes in at a reasonable $349 MSRP, and offers 1:1 magnification (very close to the front of the lens, admittedly), a claimed four stops of image stabilization and the stepper motor should work great for when you switch from stills to video. We've sampled it for both macro and general photography
A standard Canon rear lens cap lives on the back. It weighs just over 36 pounds. It is nearly 3' long. The front opening is 9" wide. The Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM lens weighs 3.28 lb. Many “pro” lenses feature 77mm filters—the 77mm is a full 6" smaller than the gaping circle at the front of this Canon.

It is noticeable sharper, smaller/lighter, better video AF, macro function is cool (though the EF is also focuses pretty close), bokeh was a tiny bit smoother even at the same aperture and noticeably so at f/1.8.
Right off the bat, I'm assuming that the previous version 35mm f/1.4L USM I will resolve details similar to the current version USM II on the Canon 5D Mark IV. Furthermore, I'm also assuming that the current version 35mm f/1.4L USM II will resolve details better at higher resolution, on the Canon 5DSr. That would make the most sense.
From what I understand (as a Sigma 35mm 1.2 user myself) from the photos, this 1.4 is actually a Sony 35mm f/1.8 competitor, not holding a candle to the 35mm 1.4 GM. Disappointing, considering how the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN was clearly sharper and quite smaller than the current Sony 85mm f/1.4 GM.
